1800s Welsbach Ruby Vented Grape Cluster With Leaves Antique Light Globe

  

A very rare Welsbach vented glass globe from around 1890. We also have another pair listed separately with a slightly smoother texture. The texture on the single globes is a heavy satin. We show all four only so you can see the full inventory. The globe is a deep ruby red in a flame shape with grapes and leaves along the base-this type of shade almost always has only grapes, no leaves.

The leaf detail is especially unusual. The globe has four vent holes to allow heat to dissipate. The shade would have been made for the Welsbach inverted gas light, but work well on electric lighting, which is how this globe was used since around 1900.

These shades are extremely hard to find, and especially so in this condition. Only very minor flea bites on the fitter rims. Some casting perfections in the form of bubbles and some rubbing notably around the fitter rims where the set screws sat. The imperfections are minor, especially considering the globe is over 125 years old. 5 wide at widest point.
