RARE Vintage Pair Oriental Lady Lamps & Ribbon Shades 1950s Tretchikoff Era MCM

  

Rare and stunning pair of true vintage plaster table lights shaped like oriental ladies holding lamps. Very unusual to find as a matching pair. Each lady has a subtly different pose, and they work wonderfully as a duo. Both still have matching ribbon shades, these are also rare to find. They have hooks on the back so were intended to either stand on tables or hang from the wall.

They date from the mid-century, circa 1950s. Ive had them since the early 1980s, apparently they were rescued from a nightclub that was closing down. Note the issues described below. The bases are intact with no cracks. They have cosmetic wear commensurate with age.

There are various dings and marks and one has some missing paint to the face. These areas are small and presumably could be touched up. The items are dusty and could do with clean. One shade is OK, the other is in poor condition. They could be used as examples for new ones, or copied / restored by a specialist ribbon shade maker (there are some online). Overall they are beautiful items that look very nice in use - characterfully aged, but not tatty.

Please see photos, I have tried to show all angles. Plastic bulb holders (bayonet fitting) are present, these are of a later date than the lamps. The lamps still work, lighted images are shown. They do not have plugs, but modern ones could be fitted.

Due to their age, rewiring and PAT testing is advised. They are medium sized, see coke can (not supplied) for scale.
