Vintage MARIA KIPP Chenille Woven LAMP SHADE Rare Mid-Century Modern 1950's
Vintage MARIA KIPP Woven LAMP SHADE circa 1950's Mid-Century Modern Modernist California Modern Eames Era. E xceptional 1950's woven lampshade by textile designer and weaver Maria Kipp. It's 17 high and constructed of wide and narrow wooden strips woven together with cream colored chenille yarn and gold lurex cord. This one's just exquisite looking. Made in very limited quantities and usually created only for very exclusive clientele, these shades are considered rare and difficult to find in excellent condition. Architects Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra, and Paul Laszlo used Kipp's modernist designs in many of their commissioned projects -- Neutra even had her work in his own residence. Designer Billy Haines was also a big fan and included her textiles and weavings in many of his interior designs for the rich and famous of Hollywood's golden era. PLEASE NOTE: the Westwood Industries lamp in photo #7 is NOT INCLUDED in this sale and is only used as a display for the shade. Condition: Excellent with some age toning to inner liner, a minor wrinkle to one area of the liner paper, and a tiny bit of wood loss to two ends of the flat wooden strips (one at top edge & one at bottom edge) -- see photos #8, #9, #10, and #11. Approximate Dimensions: 17" high x 17" top diameter x 18 bottom diameter.
