Vintage 50s Chalkware Lamp UFO Saucer Fiberglass Shades Mid Century Modern Rare

  

Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale an awesome vintage chalkware table lamp complete with its original saucer / ufo fiberglass shades. Manufactured by Colonial Art Creations in 1955 (marked on the back edge of base - see photos). The lamp is greenish in color, and it has random black paint speckles throughout. The fiberglass shades are beige and green, and both are decorated with patterns throughout.

The on/off rotary knob is located on the base, and it allows for the lamp to have 3-way functionality - either one or the other of the two shades can be lit independently, or with a third turn of the switch, both shades can be set to light up at the same time. Simply put - an AWESOME and RARE lamp! Measurements: With the shade attached, the lamp stands approx.

33.5" tall x 38" wide. The distance from the bottom of the base to the lower light socket is approx. 21.25, while that to the upper light socket is approx. The black base measures approx.

11.5" wide x 7.5" deep. Each of the two saucer-shaped fiberglass shades measures 10.75" tall x 21.5" in diameter. Overall, this is a HUGE lamp! Condition: Given the the lamp is 64 years old, we'd say it's been fairly well taken care of over the years. While not perfect, it does have some minor cosmetic flaws that we will mention here. For the most part, the surface paint is in very good shape. There are a few small spots, mainly on edges, where there is a little paint flake here or there. There are also some darkened spots to the paint in areas - we did not attempt to clean the lamp in any way, so we are not certain if they will come out or not.

Either way, they don't really detract, but they are there and being mentioned for accuracy (please zoom in on the accompanying photos). The two upright brass cylinders shows a little bit of tarnishing and color variance - again, we did not attempt to clean or polish this in any way - what you see, is what you get. The black base shows some small areas where the paint looks like it was touched up, and there is a very small (smaller than a pea) chip along the front bottom edge of the base. It looks like it too was touched up to mask it. In all honesty, we didn't notice it at first, and when viewed, you have to really be searching for it in order to spot it.

Aside from these mentions, the base is structurally solid and free from cracks, breaks, repairs, etc. The fiberglass shades are in great shape, with the exception of a little dust. There are no dents, punctures, burn marks, etc. Both shades still retain their original lacing as well. As with all vintage lighting and electronics, while we don't see any problems, we always recommend having the item looked at by a licensed professional prior to long-term use.

All in all, the lamp displays well and functions as it should! PLEASE NOTE : Due to the size and fragile nature of this lamp, LOCAL PICK-UP is the preferred option.
